The Arcane Nether Highway is our rapid-transit system.

History[edit]

The highways were started in the summer of 2014 by Patstrick, Karasaar, Dclem and SimonOrj.

Highways[edit]

Usage[edit]

To use, sprint-jump.

Adding a Portal[edit]

  • The portals for Official Exits must be placed at y=98, ideally below the highway.
  • Stairs should lead from the side of the highway to the portal.
  • A sign should indicate what exit it is and which way the highway continues ("Everything else ===>").

Portal Alignment[edit]

  1. Choose a location for a portal in the Overworld and, without lighting it, build the frame.
  2. Walk into your portal frame as if you were going to use it, and record the F3 X, Y, and Z coordinates, as well as the Facing (F) number. (This is important if you care about having a smooth transition when you walk through a portal!).
  3. Enter the coordinates into the Overworld to Nether calculator below. Double check your input, especially whether the numbers are positive or negative. Obsidian is a pain to break down and move if you make a mistake!
  4. The resulting coordinates will be displayed in the grey boxes to the right. These are the target coordinates for placing your Nether-side portal.
  5. Light your portal and go to the Nether.
  6. Go to the calculated coordinates in the Nether using F3.
  7. Destroy and replace the block below your feet at these coordinates with obsidian.
  8. Turn your character until the F3 Facing (F) number from earlier matches up. This is the direction you will be facing when exiting the portal.
  9. Place a second obsidian block in the floor either to your left or right (it doesn't matter). These two obsidian will form the base of your portal.
  10. Build a walkway from the portal base at least a few blocks in the matching "F" number direction to ensure a smooth transition through the portal. (This ensures that you won't be staring at a wall after going through a portal.)
  11. Complete the Nether portal frame and light it.
  12. Disable or destroy the Nether portal that the game spawned for you when you first entered the Nether.
  13. Exit the Nether through the new portal you just built.
  14. If you did everything right, you should have a pair of perfectly linked Nether portals.

Building Specifications[edit]

  • A floor made of ice. We have a giant Ice Farm in the east of Spawn, thanks to SimonOrJ !
  • A ceiling made of stone slabs.
  • Walls made of stone bricks and continuous netherbrick fences.
  • The Highways must keep their same "y" level at all times.
  • They must be wide, it's best to make them too wide than not wide enough.
  • They must curve smoothly, not turn at sharp angles.
  • Banners on either side of the main line should indicate where the main highway continues, after each exit.
  • If the stop is at a player base, the sign must indicate the player's name, or the name he has chosen for the area.
  • If the stop is unnamed, the builder may choose a name freely, provided its not dumb or offensive.
  • Resources for the highways can be given to you by mods. Resources are stored and can be donated at the "ShitShack", the Highway builders Headquarters, located on the Red Highway.

Extension[edit]

The highways are currently being extended from the old world border to the new one. A discussion forum has been set up to co-ordinate the extension.
